Well, my morning routine experiment didn't happen.  I couldn't sleep last night because of both a sick little girl and mind chatter.  Mostly mind chatter.  So, when my alarm went off at 9:00 am, not 7:00 because I decided to be gentle with myself since I have not been up before 11:00 am in a long time, I turned it off and rolled over.

I'm going to have to work myself into an earlier waking time.  I really would like to see what listening to morning bird song and drinking fresh hot coffee on the back deck feels like.

I'm also going to look up how to do sun salutations because, although I can envision myself doing them every morning in my perfect life, I have never actually done them.

I did get some really good ideas for my novel, though, and I got some gardening time in.  For lunch I had a salad made with fresh spinach cut from my very own garden.  That's the first time in my life I've ever done that.


I'm not giving up on the morning routine experiment, just delaying it until I can get a good night's rest.

  1. I cannot imagine getting up at 11.00. I'm making lunch by then. I got up at 5 this morning. It's now 9.45 and I have just done my workout. I'm not saying this to be judgemental--I just really cannot imagine sleeping more than 6 or 7 hours. Even when I want to I can't. What a totally different experience to the start of the day we have!

    1. I have tried for all of my adult life to become a morning person. I would really love to know what it's like to get up and get something productive done before noon. (I used to work outside the home and did get up early for work, but it never felt good. lol)I feel like I'm working against genetics sometimes. My dad if left to his own devices stays up till 4:00 am and sleeps till noon everyday. Now that he is retired that is his norm. My sister is the same way. It makes my mom crazy. I don't normally sleep so many hours, though. I think I had sleep to catch up on. I also wake frequently durning the night, and as long as I don't spend more than 2 hours awake at any one time I still consider the night a success. Ha!

  2. Oh, about sun salutations. Just about every yoga DVD out there focuses on sun salutations. I am sure you can find a good one to ease you into them. I bet Chloe can recommend a DVD, she's a yoga instructor.

  3. I'm very impressed with your homegrown spinach. My MIL has an allotment, and brings us wonderful, fresh fruit and veg on occasion. It always seems to taste better than the store bought stuff :)

    1. Yes, it does taste better! I have to believe it's more nutritious too. Picking it and eating it within minutes leaves no time for those micro-nutrients to escape. (If it even works that way. lol)

  4. As Eowyn says, most yoga DVD's will show sun salutes. A nice beginner DVD is Suzanne Deason's Yoga for Weight Loss. It doesn't really have much to do with weight loss, it's just a nice, mellow flow. However, I'm not sure she actually does a standard sun salute. Another nice one for that would be whitelotus.org, they have a number of dvd's, and though they also show advanced poses, they show more basic ones, too, and have a lovely flow that focuses on balancing the whole body. Also Shiva Rea has a sun salutations dvd, which is just that section from her yoga shakti dvd, so if the price isn't much different I'd get the yoga shakti. That's got lots of advanced stuff, but also plenty for the beginner. Only downside, she breathes (and therefore moves) really slowly.

    Hope that helps - sun salutes are wonderful, even if you don't do any other yoga. I once did a teacher training with about 30 people, and the trainer wanted to see what our teaching style and practice ability was like, so he had every one of us teach one sun salute to the whole class. 30 sun salutes is PLENTY :D
